FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS

CANDLE CARE SAFETY

Why trim wicks?

If your candle wick is too long it will cause your candle to burn quicker, hotter, and prevent your candle from staying lit. It will also cause smoking and blacken the sides of your vessel.

It is recommended to a cut length of 1/4 inch using a wick trimmer.

We have wick trimmers for purchase, but you may also use small nail clippers as well.

What happens if you put water on a burning candle?

Never pour water over a candle. The water is boiled by the melted wax, causing a combustion effect that can cause severe burns. Please use a candle snuffer, wick dipper, candle lid, or blow candle out.

My candle looks rough at the top after burning

It is not unusual for soy candles to have a rough top after burning. This is another natural occurrence with soy wax. This occurs because the hot wax is cooling at different rates of speed. This is a good indication that you have a soy wax candle and not a candle mixed with other waxes or additives.

Can I burn my candle until no more wax remains?

No, for safety reasons please discard candles when there is 1/4 inch of wax remaining.

Why is there wet spots on my candle?

Occasionally, due to the nature of the soy wax. The tiny, white looking crystals on the tops and sides of jars are called frosting. This is a natural characteristic of soy wax and should not be treated as a flaw. It does not affect the quality or burn of the candle.

Why do I see small air bubbles in my candle?

If you find air bubbles in your candle, this is simply caused by surrounding temperature changes and will not affect your candle's lifespan or diffusion.

Where can I store my candle?

When your candle isn't in use, store in a cool dry place and cover it with your candle lid to protect it from dust, which can dull its scent and cause problems during burning.

Condensation on the surface of a candle is a sign it has not been stored correctly, or has been stored for too long. Make sure to wipe this away with a paper towel before lighting.

What are the burn times for each candle size?

Burn times are based off 3-hour burns. If you burn your candle for longer than 4 hours at a time results will vary.

  • Our 8.5 oz candles burn for 50 hours

  • Our 3.5 oz candles burn for 15+ hours

Actual burn time varies by geographical location, temperature, location of burn (within a building, drafts, room temperature), altitude, and other factors.

How to properly care for your candle?

We want your Dream In Color Candle Co to give you the ultimate joy and usage of your candle. For the most effective way to do this, please follow our candle care tips below:

  • When lighting for the first time burn until wax melts across entire surface to the sides of vessel (this prevents tunneling and creates an even burn for the duration of the candle’s life’) This may take up to 2-4 hours.

  • Trim wick to ¼ of an inch before each burn to promote an even burn, steady flame and limit sooting/mushrooming of wick.

  • To preserve the fragrance, do not burn your candle more than 4 hours at a time.

  • Trim the candle wick after each burn. This is very important to prevent the candles from smoking on the next burn or from burning the sides of the glass. We recommend trimming them to 1/4th to 1/8th of an inch each time. Invest in a good pair of wick trimmers that you can find in our accessory section that will cut and remove the excess wick cleanly.

  • If soot ever forms on the inside of the vessel, extinguish candle, wait for it to cool, then wipe with a clean damp cloth. Trim wick and relight.

  • Please keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches and debris at all times.

  • Extinguish a candle if it smokes, flickers, or the flame becomes too high. These signs indicate the candle is not burning properly and the flame isn't controlled. Let the candle cool, trim the wick, then check for drafts before re-lighting.

  • To maximize scent throw, burn in desired space for 30 mins with the door closed. Open windows and doors will disperse scent.

  • Always store your candles in a cool, dark and dry place. Avoid placing your candles where they will be directly exposed to sunlight or harsh indoor lighting.

  • Remove dust and fingerprints from a candle by gently rubbing the surface with a piece of nylon or a soft cloth. The cloth can be dry or slightly dampened with water.

  • Do not burn your candle all the way down. Always leave at least ½ inch of non-molten wax at the bottom.

  • Always burn candle within sight

Please note that frosting and discoloration of the wax around the edges of the jar are natural processes that can occur to Soy Wax. This is due to the certain color content of some fragrance oils, but is purely cosmetic and does not affect the performance of the candle in any way.

Glass adhesion 'wet spots' may also appear due to changes in temperature.
